A further facinating village
to be found a few miles west of Charing is Lenham, with it's medeival
market square and again many Shops, Pubs and Restarants to explore
.
A good "stop-off" point for lunch before continuing the
walk to Charing.
Once a staging post where the
Coaches would change horses on there journey from the chanel ports
to London, Lenham has always maintained a lively mix of rural and
commercial activity.
In medieval times there were
five great Tithe Barns to store the taxes or Tithes, collected in
kind, by the church from farmers in the parish. Only one remains
today.
